9th October 2012

Angry Robot’s crime imprint, Exhibit A, has snapped up two titles from UK author William Sutton.

Commissioning editor Emlyn Rees bought world English rights in Lawless & the Devil of Euston Square and Lawless & the Master Assassin from Philip Patterson at the Marjacq Literary Agency, and will publish simultaneously in the UK and US in July 2013.

Lawless & the Devil of Euston Square is the first of a series of historical thrillers set during the mid-nineteenth century in London and Europe, featuring Metropolitan policeman, Campbell Lawless, aka the Watchman, on his rise through the ranks and his initiation as a spy.

Rees said: “Nineteenth century London is so well evoked that you can smell it and Campbell Lawless’s attempts to capture the enigmatic social revolutionary who’s determined to bring London to its knees makes for a furious page turner. A brilliant series character in the making.”

Patterson says: “Campbell Lawless is a fantastic character – a Victorian James Bond who inhabits a brilliantly evoked London of 1860s.  I am very excited  that William Sutton will be published by Emlyn Rees at such an innovative and energetic publishing house.”
